The free accounting program I would recommend is Manager and you can download it here.
As a professional Quicken/Quickbooks/Reckon beta tester and bookkeeper, and experienced with MYOB, Xero and more, I can highly recommend this Manager Accounting Program.
The problem with paying a monthly fee to use Quicken/Reckon, MYOB and many more is that when the payments end, so does access to your files.
There are many free programs created in Australia, but from my experience, over time, nothing remains free to use or it is free to use but not upgraded. Manager is continually worked on by the creators. As far as free accounting programs go, this one is compatible with any small business. The reporting features are limited, so if you are looking for detailed reports for examining everything you may need to purchase one of the paid programs. None of the free programs will be as good as Quicken or MYOB (though Quickbooks is the best).
This program can be manipulated for my acccounting requirements for GST reporting and clever little bees can manipulate many fields on this standard program.
I have been using this program with new clients, some reporting GST and some not, and this has made the job of double-checking before reporting very easy.
